We’re thrilled to share Core’s molding award nomination for the Material and Process Innovation award at CAMX 2023. This prestigious recognition affirms our dedication to excellence in the composites industry and underscores our culture of innovation. We dedicate this post to the hard work and creativity that secured this nomination.
Innovative Design Meets Powersports Performance
The pursuit of optimal power-to-weight ratios is never-ending in the powersports world. Composite molding is key in crafting unique parts that elevate vehicle performance. Daily, we produce components that are essential for personal watercraft and other powersports products.
Our Reinforced Composite DLFT Personal Watercraft Hull is more than just a part. It’s the foundation of a personal watercraft, serving as the base to mount the engine and other key components.
A Collaboration That Redefines Durability

Teaming up with BRP, we addressed their demand for a more impact-resistant hull. Rejecting the costly idea of scrapping existing molds for thicker walls, we sought a cost-effective solution.
Our collaborative efforts led to reinforcing the hull with a unidirectional fiberglass sheet. This creates a stronger part without the need for post-processing. This innovation maintains our efficiency and boosts part performance.
Breaking Barriers with Direct Long Fiber Thermoplastic Molding

Our DLFT material surpasses traditional molding limitations. By molding design features into the product, we cut the part count, ease assembly, and reduce production time and costs. Our approach represents smart manufacturing by taking a practical approach to solving a problem.
Showcased at the CAMX show, the size of this DLFT part turned heads. Weighing over 150 pounds and stretching 12 feet, we’re molding one of North America’s largest single DLFT parts with a 5,500-ton press.
Sustainability in Manufacturing: A Core Commitment
Thermoplastic molding and its inherent sustainability make for a great material choice. Our DLFT hull, 100% recyclable at life’s end, reflects our and our customers’ commitment to the environment. Across our company, we utilize over 30 million pounds of regrind thermoplastic resin annually.
The Technical Edge: Materials and Equipment
The success of our product rests on quality materials and cutting-edge equipment. Our alliances with Formerra and Johns-Manville, and Delta Mold’s expertise in compression molds are crucial. These collaborations empower us to harness the best thermoplastics and reinforcements, resulting in a robust and innovative product.
The Impact of Innovation on Personal Watercraft Sales
DLFT’s strategic application has allowed BRP to optimize production lines without sacrificing performance. Core’s DLFT molding process is a pivotal process, offering integration and efficiency that redefine industry standards.
Looking Ahead: Core’s Vision for Future Innovations
Although we didn’t win at CAMX 2023, the molding award nomination is an indication of our achievement. It will motivate us to strive for further innovation. At Core Molding Technologies, we aim to set, not just meet, industry standards. We envision a future filled with advancements that redefine the possible, benefiting our customers and the planet.
Here’s to the next breakthroughs and the relentless progress that defines Core Molding Technologies.
